🏔 Forty kilometres from Samarkand, on a rocky slope of the Zerafshan mountains, lies the cave of Hazrat Daud — one of the most revered holy places in Uzbekistan. In the Arabic legend, the prophet Daud was sent to Asia to preach monotheism. Fleeing his pursuers, he climbed into the mountains and parted the rock with his hands to shelter inside it. The prints of his palms and feet remain in the cave; pilgrims touch them and make a wish. 05:00 — Meet and depart from Tashkent Between the Uzbekistan and Tata hotels, opposite the Brookland car wash. The drive takes about five hours. Arrival at the foot of the mountain 980 metres above sea level. From here a staircase of 1,303 steps leads up to the shrine and the cave. The Damas transfer to the cave and back is included. Anyone who prefers can ride up by donkey or horse on another path, for an extra charge.
